It’s called the Willis Tower. I am a Chicago-born architecture enthusiast.
Call it the Willis Tower online, and every Chicagoan with a computer will correct you like it’s some great insult.
“Willis Tower” has been the official name my entire life. I don’t want my home state’s most famous landmark to share a name with a corporation known for being outdated and bankrupt. Based on Phonaesthetics (study of pleasant-sounding words) “Willis” should be a more beautiful word. It has more syllables, has shorter vowels, and is trochaic.
If I am overreacting, then “Sears” fanatics are catastrophizing. They go out of their way to belittle individuals harmlessly following order. People need to grow up and move on.
